Waxahachie, Texas- February 9, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s soccer team is excited to announce two new signees to the 2016 roster.  The Lady Lions will welcome Sierra Sabido and Natalie Solorio .

Sabido is a senior defender from Midway High School in Waco, Texas.  She will be following her brother, John Sabido , to SAGU.  John also plays soccer for the men’s team and Sierra admits that was a big draw in her decision to become a Lady Lion, “My brother did play a big role in my decision to come to SAGU, because nothing would better than getting to spend the next four years of college with my best friend at my side.”

While in high school Sabido was named 1 st Team Girls Cross Country Academic All-State, 2 nd Team All-District for soccer.  She is a part of National Honor Society, with a 3.98 GPA and over 200 hours of community service in the past year.

Assistant soccer coach Kaylyn Flores believes Sabido could make an immediate impact, “She is vocal, aggressive, hardworking, and will mesh well with the team. Sierra will fill a huge gap in the defense, left by one of our graduating seniors, who was a 4-year starter. She has some big shoes to fill, but we are confident she will have no difficulty in doing so!”

Solorio is a senior from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas.  She plays both the center midfielder and right defender.  She was named 1 st Team All District as a sophomore and junior.  She was a four year varsity soccer member.  Solorio is also a cross country athlete in which she placed 10 th in the district meet and regional qualifier.

Flores looks forward to seeing the work ethic Solorio will bring to the team, “On the field, she’s skilled, quick, and basically a workhorse that never lets up. We are excited to see the energy she brings to the game.  The best part about her is that she has a great attitude and heart for missions so she is a perfect fit for SAGU.”

Solorio is excited to get involved with SAGU’s missions department and Southwestern Missions Association.  She also hopes to participate in Mission TEN, organizing mission trips around the world.

The 2015 season was the best on record for SAGU.  The Lady Lions finished 9-11 overall and 3-6 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
