Fort Worth, Texas- January 28, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team picked up a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) victory over Texas Wesleyan University .  The Lady Lions topped the Lady Rams, 63-49.  SAGU is now 12-8 overall and 5-4 in the SAC.  TWU is 7-12 overall and 2-7 overall.

“Our intensity on defense tonight was great.  We had trouble scoring in the first 13 minutes of the game but our defense did its job. I’m happy with the win,” says head coach Tiffany Phillips .

As Phillips said, scoring to start the game was a little sluggish.  SAGU did go on a 9-0 run in the first five minutes.  Senior Bethany Krock scored seven of those first nine points.  At the end of the first half, SAGU was ahead 12-6.

“We came out with intensity and we got the job done on the road which isn’t always easy,” explains Krock, “We played great tonight knocking down big shots.”

The Lady Lions held the lead for the entire game, but keeping that lead didn’t always come easy.  With 6:25 left in the first half, TWU’s Katelyn Threats made a basket to bring the score within one point, 16-15.  Before the half came to an end, SAGU surged, going on a 21-9 run.

For the second half the Lady Lions were able to keep a double digit lead.  With 3:09 left in the third quarter, SAGU went up by 19 when Dy’Teesha Diggles made a basket.
