Hawkins, Texas- November 18, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team picked up a road win against Jarvis Christian College (1-3).  The Lady Lions beat JCC 57-48.  SAGU is now 4-3 for the season.

At halftime SAGU led 26-21.  Head coach Tiffany Phillips believes her team’s defense is what sealed the deal, “”We came out and played really great defense in the first and second period and I know that was the difference in the game. Our defense is getting better and better each game and we really thrive on tough defensive play.”

SAGU senior Taylor Hill led all-scorers with 22 points.  Hill went 10 of 10 on free throws.  Junior Laken Ward had 13 points.  Junior Charity Page had six rebounds and Meghan Becker added five rebounds.  As a team, SAGU shot 80% from the free throw line, going 24 for 30.

“Anytime you can pick up a road win it’s a good win. We made a lot of mistakes down the stretch in intense game situations but we were able to hit free throws and seal the win,” adds Phillips.

For JCC, Taybreanna Couch scored 18 points.

The Lady Lions will have a lengthy break for Thanksgiving.  When they return they will start Sooner Athletic Conference play.  On Thursday, December 3, 2015, SAGU will host Bacone College .  BC is currently 3-3, but will play four games before taking on the Lady Lions.
