Bartlesville, Oklahoma – August 25, 2017- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team extended their record to a perfect 6-0 after beating both Friends University and Sterling College at the Oklahoma City Wesleyan University Tournament.  In the second game of the day, SAGU’s Jessica Sodich tied a school record with 34 kills.

Sodich, reaching 34 kills, tied the school record with Kelani Daniels who has held the record since playing in a five set match verses Evangel in 2007.

Friends University (25-17, 25-18, 25-27, 25-15)

The Lady Lions started out Friday strong, playing four sets.  Friends took SAGU in the third set, but it was a battle to the end, going into extra points.

SAGU dominated the stats, Jessica Sodich had 26 kills.  Sophia Ivy had 42 assist.  Paulyae Dawkins had seven blocks.

According to Head Coach Hank Moore, the win was an overall team effort, “In addition to Paulyae’s blocks, she had some huge swings down the stretch.  We had three girls in double digits on digs; Celi Bruce (12), Jessica Sodich (10) and Nikki Almaguer (10).  We hit .354 as a team and that is a huge number. “

Sterling College (23-25, 25-17, 27-29, 27-25, 15-7)

Each set was a battle against Sterling, two sets went into extra points.  Of those two sets, SAGU split with SC.  It was the fifth set that SAGU had their most convincing lead and win.  SAGU junior Kali Shaw scored four of SAGU’s final five points.

In addition to Sodich’s 34 kills, sophomore Sophia Ivy had 61 assists.  Paulyae Dawkins had 13 kills, Summer Skillern and Kali Shaw each had 11 kills.  Six SAGU players had double-digit digs; Celi Bruce (21), Jessica Sodich (19), Sophia Ivy (15), Kali Shaw (13), Nikki Almaguer (13) and Summer Skillern.

The Lady Lions will continue in their last day of play at the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Tournament on Saturday.  At 8am they play Oklahoma Wesleyan (1-1) and at 2pm they take on College of the Ozarks (2-0).
