The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team is off to a 4-0 start after going undefeated in the Red River Athletic Conference / Sooner Athletic Conference Crossover Tournament .  SAGU defeated Wiley College and University of the Southwest on Friday and Jarvis Christian and University of St. Thomas- Houston on Saturday.  The Lady Lions only lost three sets all weekend long.

The Lady Lions had a strong showing in the first game of the season with the return of All-American Jessica Sodich.  Sodich had a double/double in her long-awaited return.  She had 15 kills and 17 digs.  Summer Skillern had 14 kills.  Sophia Ivy had 36 assists.

Sodich continued her streak of double digit kills in game two, leading with 12.  Kali Shaw added 11 kills.  Both Celi Bruce and Sophia Ivy had 12 digs.  Ivy also added 34 assists.  In the second set, SAGU held USW to only seven points.

The Lady Lions had their most convincing victory over Jarvis Christian College.  Summer Skillern led with eight kills.  SAGU had 33 kills compared to Jarvis’ 14.  Jarvis also had double the errors with 22.   Bruce had 22 digs and Ivy had 27 assists.

The last game of the tournament went to a full five sets and it was a battle to the very end.  Sodich continued her weekend dominance with 23 kills and 14 digs.  Paulyae Dawkins earned 13 kills.  Celi Bruce had 15 digs and Sophia Ivy had 48 assists.

Over the four games, Sodich had 56 kills.  A feat that surprised even her, “We came out with such high intensity.  I have never started out a season so high and solid.  It felt so good.”

The Lady Lions have a week break before they are back in action at the Oklahoma Wesleyan Tournament.  On Friday, August 25, SAGU will play Friends University at 9 a.m.
