Bacone College (25-8, 25-17, 25-13)

The Lady Lions were quick to jump in the lead over the Lady Warriors and stayed on top throughout the match.  The only time Bacone led was the very first point in the second set.

SAGU junior Paulyae Dawkins led the Lady Lions against Bacone College.  She had 15 kills on 22 swings with a hitting percentage of .636.  She also had two single blocks and three assist blocks.  Summer Skillern added nine kills.

Celi Bruce had 20 digs and Kali Shaw added 12.  Sophia Ivy had 33 assists for the Lady Lions.

John Brown University (19-25, 20-25, 25-20, 20-25)

“Today was a tough match against JBU,” remarks head coach Hank Moore, “We lost in four sets and all the sets were close, but we just could not press through.”

Despite SAGU having two more kills and four more digs than JBU, the Lady Lions couldn’t overpower JBU.  In the first set, SAGU was trailing JBU 21-19.  The Golden Eagles went on to score four points in a row, partly thanks to back-to-back SAGU attack errors.  In the third set where SAGU came out on top, the Lady Lions jumped in the lead early and never trailed for the entirety of the set.

“The match was lost at the net and service line. JBU had seven total blocks and we had four. They had four aces and we had only two. We definitely had our chances, but just did not get it done,” explains Moore.

Summer Skillern led SAGU with 18 kills and a .456 hitting percentage.  Kali Shaw had another double/double with 17 kills and 14 digs.

Sophia Ivy finished with 52 assists for the Lady Lions.  Celi Bruce had 26 digs.

According to Moore, SAGU’s upcoming games this week have a lot riding on them, “Next week we have Texas Wesleyan at home on Tuesday night and then travel on Friday to Southwestern Christian. Both of these matches are going to have an effect on seeding going into the conference tournament.”

On Tuesday, October 25, 2016 the Lady Lions will host a 24-4 Texas Wesleyan University.  Game time is at 7pm.
