Moore, Oklahoma – October 24, 2017 – The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Women’s soccer team beat Mid-America Christian University 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon.  The Lady Lions are now 9-7 overall and are in fourth place with a 5-3 record in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC).  This win solidifies SAGU’s qualification into the NCCAA Regional Tournament.

In the first half, junior Rachel Freed initiated a point onto the scoreless board to give SAGU the 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 throughout the rest of the first half’s regulation time. In the second half, Mid-America came back and responded with a goal of their own causing the game to go to a tie 1-1. The Lady Lions persevered, and in the final 10 minutes of the second half, senior Nadine Jaimes sent in the winning goal. The final score was SAGU’s two to Mid America’s one.

Coach Paul Hason was pleased with the effort put forth by his squad to win on the road in Sooner Athletic Conference play. “I’m very proud and excited for the Lady Lions. We played a great opponent who we knew was going to utilize their home field advantage. Despite us giving up a goal in the second half, we stuck to our game plan until the end and were able to finish strong,” explains Hason.

SAGU Women’s soccer will be back in competition on Saturday, October 28, 2017 against Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City at 2:00 P.M.
