Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – October 30, 2017 – The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s soccer team beat Oklahoma City University 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. This is SAGU’s first ever win against OCU in program history.

Oklahoma City University came out strong during the first half of the game against the Lady Lions. OCU had eight shots on goal while SAGU only had one in the first half. This gave SAGU’s Sarah Palmer five saves after the first 45 minutes of regulation.

In the second half, the SAGU women picked up the pace. The game would remain scoreless until SAGU senior Nadine Jaimes would send in an unassisted shot to the back of Oklahoma City’s net with 4:49 left in the 90-minute game. OCU would finish the game with a total of 15 shots, while SAGU would only get three. The final score of the game gave SAGU their very first victory over OCU, 1-0.

Head Coach Paul Hason proclaimed to his team at the end of the game, “Hard work, given time, will beat talent when talent doesn’t work hard!”

Assistant Coach Sarah Porter stated, “We have never beaten this team before. We worked hard and played until the very end. The win was a very big deal for us.”

SAGU goalie Sarah Palmer had a huge game for the Lady Lions.  She had five saves while allowing no goals.

The win against OCU clenched SAGUs spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament and allowed for the women to have home field advantage for their first game. The tournament will commence on November 3rd, 2017 with SAGU’s opponent to soon be determined.
