Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Wayland Baptist University (WBU)

With the victories, the Lady Lions remain tied at the top of the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) with Oklahoma City University .  SAGU is now 13-1 in the SAC and 23-5 overall.

The Lady Lions were able to finish on top against the Lady Pioneers on Friday night in intense five sets.  The Lady Lions battled back and forth with WBU, but the difference in the game was SAGU’s kill/error percentage. The Lady Lions only had 26 hitting errors while the Flying Queens 41. SAGU put up a .145 hitting clip compared to Wayland’s .053, doubling their hitting percentage.

Kali Shaw led the Lady Lions with 16 kills, 12 digs, and three block assists. Paulyae Dawkins followed with 14 kills, one solo block, and three block assists. Jessica Sodich added 14 kills as well, 22 digs, and three block assists. Sophia Ivy had 48 assists and was short one dig from a double-double. Nikki Almaguer had 14 digs and Celi Bruce had 10 digs for the Lady Lions.

“We were incredible on defense and I’m proud of the way we competed in a match that we were not at all our best,” Head Coach Hank Moore explains.

Against OPSU, Jessica Sodich led the Lady Lions with another double-double. She had 17 kills and 21 digs. Paulyae Dawkins played very strong today. She had 11 kills on 24 swings with a .375 hitting percentage. She also added four assist blocks and three solo blocks. Kali Shaw had seven kills and 18 digs. Sophia Ivy had 37 assists and 13 digs for a double-double. Celi Bruce had 16 digs.

“Our kids were completely spent. We escaped with a win, but this travel schedule will never happen again. This was a very hard trip for our kids, but many lessons learned as well as two wins,” Coach Moore explains.” Despite the long travel, the Lady Lions were able to get two road wins under their belt and remain in the top standings.”

The Lady Lions will return home this weekend and compete against Mid-America Christian University Friday night 7pm for the blue-out game supporting Colon Cancer Awareness and Saturday, November 4, 2017 the Lady Lions will host Oklahoma Science and Arts for their Senior Night celebrating Jessica Sodich, Paulyae Dawkins, and Summer Skillern.
