SAGU women’s basketball Sooner Athletic Conference

Going into the game, Head coach Tiffany Phillips ’ game plan was focused on having fewer turnovers, “We have been talking about the value of each possession and how we need to get a good shot every trip down the court.  We focused on that and getting big plays in big situations.”

In the first quarter the Lady Lions quickly jumped into the lead.  By the end of the first, SAGU was up 22-12.

“We came out in the first period and executed our game plan really well,” says Phillips, “But we fell away from that plan a little bit with fatigue.  I thought our fourth period was crucial.”

With 3:51 left in the third quarter, the Lady Cavaliers regained the lead after Kylee Tatum ’s made two free-throws, making the score 45-44.  With 1:56 left in the third, SGU’s lead extended to five.  SAGU’s Ebony Colbert was able to cut that lead to three after a made basket at the buzzer.

In the fourth quarter, SAGU senior Charity Page showed up in a big way and scored 17 points for the Lady Lions.  Page’s performance was a game-changer says Phillips, “Charity came alive on both ends of the floor.  She had 29 points overall which is huge but she also had three big steals.  Alexis (McAfee) and Ebony (Colbert) were aggressive and I thought Lexi Rich carried us offensively in the first half.”

Page had 29 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Kayla Blise and Lexi Rich each added 12 points. Alexis McAfee also had nine points and three steals.

SGU’s Lauren Godbold scored 18 points.
