Waxahachie, Texas- March 7, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team split a doubleheader in the final non-conference match-up of the season against York College .  The Lady Lions won the first game 10-5 but lost the second game 5-1.

Game One (W 10-5)

SAGU started the doubleheader with Ashley Abair on the mound.  Abair pitched four innings, striking out three and giving up eight hits.  Lee pitched three innings and had two strike-outs.

In the top of the first, SAGU committed one error.  York scored two runs off of one hit.

In the bottom of the first, the Lady Lions started with a bang and put three runs on the board.  Lead-off hitter Bailey Balloun singled to third base and advanced to second on a stolen base.  After a passed ball by York, Balloun made it to third. Kelsey Coburn singled to left field, scoring Balloun.  SAGU’s Kristin Stringer doubled to left, putting Coburn in scoring position.  Coburn was able to score after Ashley Abair hit a sacrifice fly to left field.  Finally, Stringer scored the last run of the inning when Ashlyn Stanfill singled to center.

In the bottom of the second, SAGU picked up two more runs.  Balloun was able to score after Ashley Nop tripled.  Nop was then able to score after a passed ball by the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Lions scored one run in both the fourth and the fifth innings and then three runs in the sixth inning.

Balloun was two-for-four with three runs scored.  Coburn went two-for-three with one RBI and two runs scored.

Balloun wasn’t only solid offensively, head coach Sarah Harman believes she helped solidify the win defensively, “Bailey Balloun was key defensively as she tracked down and made some beautiful catches in centerfield.”
