Waxahachie, Texas – March 6, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team played host to Shriner College in a non-conference doubleheader. SC topped SAGU 5-4 in game one and 9-3 in game two.
Game One
SAGU’s Hannah Lee started on the mound for the Lady Lions and pitched five innings. Lee had three strike-outs and had 11 hits. Ashley Abair came in relief, finishing the final two innings.
Going into the top of the sixth, SAGU had the three to two lead. The Lady Lions had picked up their first run in the bottom of the first after Bailey Balloun singled to shallow center. Balloun was able to score on Shriner’s wild throw.
In the top of the fifth, Shriner scored two runs. Hernandez led off with a triple to right field. Hernandez was able to score off of Cordon’s ground out to second. They were able to pick up another run off of SAGU’s bobble.
In the bottom of the fifth SAGU quickly answered with two runs of their own when Ashley Nop doubled to center, scoring Rieanha Cano and Balloun.
In the sixth, Shriner’s bats came alive and despite zero errors committed by the Lady Lions, Shriner had three runs off of five hits.
During the bottom of the seventh, Kristin Stringer doubled to left field, scoring Kelsey Coburn . That was the only run SAGU was able to earn in the seventh.
SAGU’s Balloun was two-for-four with two runs scored and one double. Kristin Stringer was three-for-four with one RBI and one double.
Game Two
Lee started on the mound for the Lady Lions but Ashley Abair came in and finished the entire seven innings.
In the first two innings, Shriner scored seven runs off of five hits and two SAGU errors.
Hannah Lee singled to left field, scoring Rieanha Cano in the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the third, Kelsey Coburn singled to center field, scoring both Balloun and Nop. Coburn reach third base off of two wild throws, but was left stranded when SAGU picked up two more outs.
SAGU’s Cano was three for three with one run scored. Kelsey Coburn was one for two with two RBI’s.
On Monday, March 7, 2016 SAGU will host York (Nebraska). The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5pm at the Waxahachie Sports Complex .
