Waxahachie, Texas – November 7, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team improves to 3-1 after beating University of St. Thomas-Houston (USTH), 61-50. This was the fourth game SAGU has played in a five day stretch.

On Friday, the Lady Lions topped Oklahoma Wesleyan University (OKWU) in double overtime.  Head coach Tiffany Phillips was worried her girls wouldn’t have much energy left, “I was concerned that we would come out flat since we had such an emotional win last night but we came out with intensity and emotion and jumped out to a nice lead.”

By the fourth quarter, the weariness of a busy week started to creep in and the Celts were able to capitalize, scoring 22 points compared to SAGU’s 14 in the quarter alone.  In the end, however, it did not matter.

SAGU senior Taylor Hill is proud of the start her team has earned, but believes there is more to come, “Our team played really well tonight, especially coming off such a big win Friday night. The best part is that we have so much more to show everyone. We have so much passion and motivation that there’s no telling what we can accomplish when we play our game. This weekend proves that.”

Offensively and defensively the Lady Lions were led by junior Charity Page with 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Junior Laken Ward had 12 points and seven rebounds.  Senior Meghan Becker had 11 points and Hill had 10 points and six assists.

On Tuesday, November 10, 2015, the Lady Lions will play at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.  Earlier in the week Wiley beat SAGU 70-67.  They are currently 2-0 for the season.
