Bethany, Oklahoma- January 8, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team had an amazing come-from-behind win over Southwestern Christian University (4-9 overall, 1-2 in the SAC).  The Lady Lions topped SCU 54-53.  SAGU is now 8-2 overall and 1-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC).

“It was absolutely a tale of two halves tonight,” says head coach Tiffany Phillips, “We came out flat and with no intensity or sense of urgency to start the game. SCU did a great job attacking our defense and hitting some big shots.”

The Lady Lions were down 35-17 at halftime.  In the second half, SAGU started to press and that brought around many changes says Phillips, “”We decided to press to open up the second half and I told them right before the third period started that we weren’t going to get it all back at once. We needed to cut the lead to nine by the start of the fourth. They topped that and cut it to six.”

At the start of the fourth quarter the score was 46-40 with SCU in the lead.  SAGU’s Ebony Colbert made a three pointer right off the bat, cutting the score to 46-43.  Next, Charity Page made a basket, followed by a made free throw from Bethany Krock.  Krock’s free throw tied the game 46-46.

SCU was quick to regain the lead when Adrianna White made a three pointer on their next trip down the court.  Page and Krock made back to back baskets, putting SAGU back in the lead, 50-49.

With 4:29 left in the game,  SCU took their last lead of the game.  Then SAGU’s Dy’Teesha Diggles scored four points in a row.  With 0:29 left in the game, SCU’s White made one final basket, but it wasn’t enough to win.  The Lady Lions come out on top, 54-53.

“Our defense sparked our offense tonight. We had some big minutes from Dotty, Bethany and Meghan off the bench. Those players were in when we made our run. Ebony Colbert was huge for us tonight. She was the consistent one attacking all night and it paid off,” says Phillips.

Colbert agrees with Phillips, “”Our team didn’t start off as well as we thought we would but we fought back hard and that’s what good teams do. Our defense the second half really had us going and with our bench having a lot of energy it transferred to us on the court. We never gave up on ourselves or each other.”

Colbert had 13 points for the Lady Lions.  Bethany Krock and Taylor Hill each added 10 points.  Krock and Meghan Becker each had two steals for SAGU.  Krock also had 10 rebounds.

SCU’s Adrianna White led the Lady Eagles with 13 points.

On Saturday, January 9, 2016, SAGU will continue SAC play when they host University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (1-6 overall and 0-2 in the SAC).  Game time is at 3pm.
