Marshall, Texas- August 25, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s soccer team has officially got the first game jitters out of the way.  The Lions fell to Wiley College , 4-2.

Wiley College was the first to put a point on the board with a goal by Kayla Taylor at 17:27.  Taylor wasn’t done, and scored two more goals in the first half alone.  Her second goal at 32:34 put Wiley up 2-0.

At 36:28, Mariah Sanchez scored for the Lady Lions.  The momentum was in SAGU’s favor, five minutes later Laura Barba scored, making the game 2-2.

SAGU let one more slip by when Taylor scored again right before halftime, putting Wiley up 3-2.

“Our ladies played a much tighter game in the second half,” says head coach Mandy Fortner , “We had a few very promising opportunities but couldn’t score.”

Less than 30 seconds into the second half, Wiley’s Stephanie Covarrubias scored a goal.  After that, the Lady Lions tightened up their defense and the rest of the game went scoreless.

On Saturday, August 29, 2015 SAGU will host Jarvis Christian College .  Kick-off is at 11:00am.
