Chickasha, OK- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) were on the road again on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Oklahoma to take on the University of Science and Arts (Okla.) (USAO). The Lions (11-12, 6-10) were unable to upend the Drovers (17-8, 11-5) as the lost by the score of 76-67.

Sydney Meador scored 18 points against USAO

Top Performers

  • Lexi Rich ( SR/San Antonio, TX ) led the way for the Lady Lions in scoring with 28 points.
  • Alexis Casher ( JR/Irvington, AL ) pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds
  • Sydney Meador ( JR/Denton, TX )(18) and Tamera Derrough ( SO/Mansfield, TX ) (13) were the only other SAGU players to manage double-figure scoring.
  • SAGU lost the rebounding battle 44-32
  • SAGU shot better from behind the arc 46% (12-26) than they did from two-point range 32% (18-56)
  • The Lady Lions were demolished when it came to scoring in the paint 42-8

Lions Review

  • Rich started off the scoring for SAGU as she hit a three-pointer to tie the game 3-3.
  • Rich hit two more long-range shots to give the Lions a 9-8 advantage with 3:50 left in the first quarter.
  • The teams traded baskets, but another three-pointer by Meador with under a minute left in the quarter tied the game at 14-14.
  • Rich came out firing in the second quarter as she connected on two more threes, again tying the game, this time at 22-22.
  • USAO went on a quick 7-0 run to give themselves some breathing room.
  • SAGU’s Jayne Carr ( FR/Canton, TX ) hit a long-range shot to cut it to a one-possession game 29-27 with 1:28 before the half.
  • Derrough nailed a couple of free throws just before the end of the half as the Lady Lions trailed 34-33 at the break.
  • USAO put together a 9-4 run to open the third quarter to lead 43-37 midway through the quarter.
  • Rich connected once again from behind the arc to keep SAGU within striking distance at 46-42.
  • Derrough hit yet another three-pointer near the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Lions still trailed 54-47 heading into the final quarter.
  • Casher hit a couple of clutch free-throws to bring SAGU within one-possession at 54-51 with 8:03 remaining. She brought them within three again (59-56) with an offensive rebound and putback.
  • Meador tied the game (59-59) with a three-pointer with 4:49 left.
  • The Lady Lions went cold down the stretch as USAO used a 14-4 run to close the game and eventually take the win 76-67.

SAGU will be in action again when they travel to Langston University on Thursday, February 20 th at 6:00 pm.
