Waxahachie, TX- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Women’s Basketball hosted Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) in another Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) game at the Sheaffer Center on Saturday afternoon. The Lions (7-4, 2-2) were able get another important SAC victory over the Aggies (4-8, 0-4) by the score of 67-41.

Alexis Casher pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds against OPSU

Top Performers

  • Lexi Rich ( SR/San Antonio, TX ) led all scorers with 16 points.
  • Alexis Cashier ( JR/Irvington, AL ) once again dominated the glass snagging 18 rebounds.
  • Tamera Derrough ( SO/Mansfield, TX ) led the Lions in assists with 4.
  • SAGU capitalized on their offensive rebounds by converting them into 13-second chance points.
  • The lady Lions were stingy on defense as they surrendered only 29% (16-54) and 6% (1-16) from three-point range.

Lions Review

  • Rich hit her first three-pointer. Kiara Glenn ( JR/Ennis, TX), and Sydney Meador ( JR/Denton, TX ) added a basket each to push SAGU out to an early 7-0 run to open the first quarter.
  • The Aggies got themselves back into it but still saw themselves trailing after one quarter 11-7.
  • An 11-6 run built the SAGU lead to 22-13 midway through the second period.
  • The Aggies were unable to cut into the Lions lead as they found themselves down double-digits 27-15 t halftime.
  • A quick four-point spurt got the lead under 10, but SAGU followed that up with a 13-5 run of their own to build a comfortable lead of 40-22 with 4:07 left in the third quarter.
  • The lead was pushed to 19 (47-28) as the game moved to the final quarter.
  • SAGU held the Aggies without a field goal until 4:06 remained in the game.
  • The Lions were able to ride that defensive momentum the rest of the game as they cruised to a 67-41 victory.

What’s Next

SAGU (7-4, 2-2) will travel to Bethany, OK to battle a tough Southwestern Christian University (9-1, 2-1) squad on January 9 th at 6:00 pm.
