Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball St. Gregory’s University Charity Page Laken Ward Alexis McAfee

“I’m so thankful that we were able to pull off the win today for our seniors,” says head coach Tiffany Phillips , “It’s no secret that this year has been hard for all of us but we played together and took care of business.”

SAGU had to battle through adversity and in the first half they trailed the Lady Cavaliers for the majority of the time.  By halftime, SAGU was down 33-29.

The second half was a different story and the Lady Lions came out of the locker room ready to play. In the first minute of the second half, Charity Page and Taylor Sims each made a basket to tie the game at 33.

SAGU was able to take the lead and keep it up until six minutes left in the game.  With 6:05 left to play, the game was tied at 54-all.  In the final six minutes, SAGU was able to go on a 16-7 run.

At this point, only one of the seniors was able to play ( Alexis McAfee ) after Charity Page had fouled out and Laken Ward was sidelined from a season-ending injury.  Phillips believes her team’s heart was what pulled them through, “Everyone wanted to win it for those three.  Ebony (Colbert) caught fire in the second half.  Korede was amazing with a career high night. I am sad to see Alexis, Laken and Charity go but the sacrifices they made and the commitment they had to this team will not be forgotten.  They have meant so much to me personally and to this program as a whole.”

Charity Page , Ebony Colbert and Korede Ahmedu each scored in the double digits.  Colbert had 18 points, Page scored 17 points and Ahmedu added 14 points.  Ahmedu also had 22 rebounds.  Page added 11 rebounds.

The Lady Lions ended their season 11-16 overall and 4-14 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
