Waxahachie, Texas- December 15, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team topped Arlington Baptist College , 88-77.  The Lady Lions improved to 6-5 after winning this non-conference match.

“Arlington Baptist is a very scrappy team and we told the girls coming in that they would play with a lot of intensity, trying to speed up the game. We wanted to focus on playing our style of basketball. I’m not sure we did that tonight but we did a lot of good things offensively,” says head coach Tiffany Phillips .

The entire first quarter was neck and neck.  At the end of the first, the score was tied for the fifth time of the game at 15.

With 4:30 left in the first half, SAGU’s Bethany Krock made a three-pointer to push the Lady Lions ahead 26-24.  From that point on, SAGU’s lead continued to build.  At halftime the Lady Lions were up 36-31.

Phillips was impressed with the way her bench played, “We had some early foul trouble with Taylor Hill and some of our post but our subs did a great job handling the press and really making a good run in the second period. That was great to see that spark. Ebony Colbert was fantastic tonight. She had 9 rebounds and that has to be a career high for her. She was focused and ready to play.”

On top of Colbert’s nine rebounds, she also had a career-high 21 points.  Junior Charity Page had 16 points and nine rebounds.  Senior Bethany Krock added 12 points and had three steals. Laken Ward pulled in an impressive 15 rebounds as well for the Lady Lions.

SAGU will play one final game before Christmas break.  The Lady Lions will travel to Belton, Texas on Thursday, December 16, 2015 to take on Mary-Hardin Baylor .  Game time is at 5:00pm.
