The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team split at Schreiner University and Howard Payne University . They won game one of both series then dropped the second two on both of the series. Game one against SU resulted in a 3-1 win and a 1-3 loss then against HPU they won their sixth game of the season and finished their weekend on a 0-11 deficit from the Yellow Jackets.

Casey Waterman pitched one of her best games of the year allowing five hits, one earned run, and striking out two batters in all eight innings. The game extended to the eighth inning after it being 0-0 after the first seven;  the Lady Lions scored three in the top of the eight while giving one back in the bottom of that inning. Rhian Journey, Janely Cruz, Casey Waterman, Kayla Milstead, and Maddie Watson all had hits while Cruz and Cheyenne Fults both had RBI’s. The second game of the series started out with SAGU striking first in the second but remained scoreless after that. The Mountaineers scored three runs starting in the third inning. Cheyenne Fults, Airiana Magdaleno , Journey, Cruz, Fults, and Milstead struck together five hits on the day. Magdaleno recorded the only RBI for the second game of the series. Natalie Voss faced 13 batters in 3.2 innings while giving up three hits for four walked batters, three hits, two runs, one earned run, and one strikeout. Waterman finished the final 2.1 innings recording three hits and one earned run.

Fults propelled SAGU passed HPU when she hit a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning that gave them a 6-1 lead. They combined for eight hits as a team and seven runs which ties their season high for a game this year. Journey and Rosie Guadarrama both had double hit games while Cruz, Fults, Journey, and Watson had RBI’s. Waterman got her second win of the weekend after pitching the full seven innings and only allowing three runs. The final game of the weekend the Lady Lions were held scoreless after getting six hits on the fourth game of their weekend trip. Voss allowed 11 hits and five earned runs during 3.2 innings to give them a 2-2 weekend record.

They travel to Texarkana to face Texas A&M Texarkana for a two-game series starting at 1 pm and 3 pm for a non-conference matchup. Texarkana is currently 4-4 on the season so far.
