Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball John Brown University

A few weeks earlier, SAGU was able to top the Lady Golden Eagles in a 52-43 win at home.  Thursday night proved to be a very different situation with both teams scoring nearly double the points from the first match-up of the season.

JBU held the lead throughout the entire game, but the first half was quite close.  With 7:56 left in the second quarter, Charity Page had a fast break to tie the score at 26.

With 0:38 left in the half, JBU’s Kodee Powell hit a basket to extend their lead to six points.  On SAGU’s next trip down the court, Kayla Bise hit a three-pointer to cut JBU’s lead to three at halftime, 40-37.

The second half did not go in the Lady Lions favor and JBU simply could not miss.  JBU shot 65% from behind the arc, going 17-for-26.  They also shot over 52% from the field goal range.

The Lady Lions were led by senior Charity Page with 21 points.  Page also had eight rebounds and three steals.  Three other SAGU women scored in double digits; Laken Ward scored 16 points, Kayla Bise scored 15 points and Alexis McAfee added 11 points.  Ward had a double/double with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Kodee Powell scored 19 points for JBU. Luize Skrastina added 18 points.

On Saturday, February 4, 2017, SAGU will play at Bacone College.  Game time is at 3pm.  BC is currently 7-13 overall and 4-7 in the SAC.
