Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball Kansas Wesleyan University

In game one, KWU’s pitcher Brandon Wescher threw all seven innings for the Coyotes.  Wescher had four strike-outs and six hits.  The Lions had six hits, two from Griffin Glenn . CJ Bills also hit a double.

The second game, SAGU was able to get one run on the board.  In the bottom of the fifth, Ethan Greiner singled to third to get on base.  He was able to advance to second on a wild pitch.  Next, Chris Wallace doubled deep down the left field line, scoring Greiner.

In the third game, SAGU only came up with three hits. CJ Bills , Derrick Clement and Griffin Glenn each had one hit.

Game four was the closest for the Lions. Augie Martinez and Payton Barrios saw the majority of time on the mound.  Martinez pitched four innings and Barrios pitched three innings for SAGU.

In the bottom of the first, SAGU scored two innings. CJ Bills reached base on a misplayed grounder.  Bills was able to advance to third after Jake Payonk singled to shallow right field. Josh Terry reached first on the fielder’s choice, scoring Bills. Tanner Lindle scored the second run after Tanner Lindle singled to shallow left field.  The Lions stranded three on base.

SAGU’s next two runs came in the bottom of the sixth. Josh Terry doubled to center field, scoring Clement and Bills.  Once again, the Lions left the inning stranding three on base.

Going into the top of the seventh, SAGU had the 4-3 lead.  In the top of the seventh, KWU’s Kelvin Brito singled to center field, scoring Tanner Nelson .  That tied the game at 4-all, sending it into extra innings.  In the eighth, KWU scored two runs off of three hits.  SAGU wasn’t able to score in the bottom of the eighth, ending the game.

At the plate, Tanner Lindle went two for four with one RBI.  Next weekend the Lions will play their first away game when they travel to Wiley College.  The play the Wildcats Friday and Saturday, February 24-25, 2017.  Wiley is currently 2-10 for the season.
