Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball John Brown University

The first half was strongly in SAGU’s favor.  With two minutes left in the half, Josh Swearingin extended the Lions lead to 17.  JBU was able to go on a 9-0 run, making the halftime score 43-34.

The Golden Eagles’ run continued in the second half and with 14:30 left, JBU’s Marquis Waller ’s basket gave the Golden Eagles a one point lead, 47-46.

With 1:12 left on the clock, SAGU’s Isaak Rowe got an offensive rebound and had a put back to tie the score at 64.

Up until the final six seconds, the score was within three points.

On JBU’s next possession, the Golden Eagles were able to get their own offensive rebound, followed by a well-timed three pointer by Brandon Joseph .  Next, JBU’s Zach English made both free throws, followed up by another Golden Eagles basket to make the final score 71-64.

SAGU’s Keyunta Watkins scored 16 points for the Lions. Josh Swearingin added 10 points and six rebounds.

JBU’s Zach English added 21 points and had 11 rebounds.

JBU was able to shoot an impressive 86% from the free throw line, going 12 for 14.

The Lions will have to rebound from the loss quickly.  They play Bacone College on Saturday, January 14, 2017.  Game time is at 5pm.
