Waxahachie, Texas- March 3, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team lost their first round game in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) tournament to John Brown University .  The final score was 51-41.

Ending the season, SAGU and JBU were tied in fourth place in the SAC.  SAGU ended this part of the season with a record of 17-13.  JBU is now 18-13.  This was the 13 th match between the two teams.  SAGU has yet to beat JBU overall.

This was the third time SAGU lost to JBU this season.  Earlier this year, JBU topped SAGU by three points and four points respectively.

In the first quarter, the game went back and forth.  With 2:31 left in the first, Laken Ward scored to tie the game at 10.  The Lady Lions continued on to score three more consecutive baskets and ended the first quarter 16-10.

In the second quarter, SAGU continued to build their lead.  They took their biggest lead of the night after Meghan Becker hit two free throws to make the score 21-12.

The first half ended with the Lady Lions on top, 25-21.  At the half, SAGU was shooting eight for 28 at 28%.

The Golden Eagles took over the lead with 5:06 to play in the third quarter after a SAGU turnover.  It took until the middle of the fourth quarter, but JBU was able to pull ahead enough to give a little insurance going into the final few minutes of the game.

With 1:28 left in the game, SAGU was able to bring it within four points when Charity Page capitalized off of a JBU turnover.  Unfortunately, SAGU couldn’t make any shots fall in the final minute and JBU topped SAGU, 51-41.

The Lady Lions had 16 steals for the contest.  SAGU’s Charity Page scored 17 points, nine rebounds and had four steals. Taylor Hill scored six points and had four steals.  Laken Ward also had four steals.

JBU’s Baily Cameron scored 16 points and had seven rebounds.

The Lady Lions will next play in the NCCAA Regional Tournament at Colorado Christian.  The tournament begins on March 10, 2016.
