Waxahachie, Texas- November 11, 2015- Two Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s soccer players have been named to the Sooner Athletic Conference post-season honors. Nadine Jaimes and Laura Barba have been picked second team all-conference.  This is the first time a SAGU Lady Lion has been awarded this honor.

Head Coach Mandy Fortner is pleased to see two players receive this first-time recognition, “This is exciting. Nadine and Laura both scored in the double digits this year, plus they both had several assist.  They deserve this honor. They have worked very hard toward this goal and have worked well together in important games.  I am very proud of both of them.”

Jaimes is from Dallas where she graduated from Mesquite High School.  The sophomore forward scored 14 goals this season and had five assists.  She had 41 shots on goal.  In three games, Jaimes scored a career high of two goals.  She also ended the season ranked no. 48 in the NAIA in total goals (14).  As a freshman, Jaimes didn’t score any goals for the Lady Lions.

Junior Laura Barba is a forward from El Paso, Texas.  2015 was her first season playing at SAGU and she made an immediate impact, scoring 12 goals for the Lady Lions. Barba also had seven assists.  Against Bacone and Friends, Barba scored a season high of two goals.  She also had a career high of two assists in two games this season.

Barba and Jaimes both broke the school record for goals in a season, set at seven in 2007.  The two have led SAGU women’s soccer to their winningest record of 9-10.

The Lady Lions will have another chance to improve on their stats as they will host the National Christian Colleges Athletic Association regional soccer tournament on November 19-21, 2015.
