Defensive Coordinator Jared Hudgins has informed Head Football Coach Ryan Smith of his resignation from the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football staff. Hudgins is resigning to become the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Fort Worth Christian in North Richland Hills, TX.

Hudgins has been with the SAGU football staff since 2015 serving as defensive line coach under former head coach Frank Tristan and moving to defensive coordinator in 2018 on Coach Smith’s staff. Prior to coming to SAGU in 2015 Hudgins was an assistant coach at Midland Christian High School. Hudgins undergraduate athletic career was spent at SAGU where he set school records for tackles in a game, tackles in a season, and career tackles while becoming an NAIA Preseason All-American.

Director of Athletics, Dr. Jesse Godding, was Hudgins coach during his playing career stated: “The SAGU family is disappointed to see Jared and Kaitlyn leave SAGU. He has been a valuable member of two SAGU football staffs as a coach and mentor for young men. Kaitlyn has faithfully served as cheer advisor for a number of years. We look forward to hearing how they are blessing the Fort Worth Christian community and wish them well in their new family endeavor.”
