Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Player of the Week Awards

Sooner Athletic Conference and NCCAA Offensive Player of the Week: CJ Collins

Not only was CJ awarded both of these awards but he also broke many school records with a homecoming victory over Texas Wesleyan University . Collins is now the school leader in single-game passing yards with 561 yards on 41 completions which is now the record for completions in a game, single-game touchdown record with six touchdowns through the air, and total offense with those numbers. He also passed 10000 career passing yards as a Lion on Saturday and 90 passing touchdowns. In the NAIA, CJ ranks in the top five in multiple categories that ranks him amongst one of the top quarterbacks in the nation; passing yards on the season with 2684 which is 2nd nationally, 2nd nationally also with an average of 335.5 passing yards per game, 3rd in total offense with 2646 yards and fifth in total offense per game with 330.8 yards.

Total Offense: 519 yards, 9/3/04, Ryan Smith vs. Principia College

Passing Yards: 444 yards, 10/24/09, Jeremy Fowler vs. University of the Incarnate Word

TD Passes: 5, 9/26/09, Jeremy Fowler vs. Oklahoma Panhandle State University

SAC, NCCAA and NAIA National Defense Player of the Week: Landon Jones

Landon Jones is a junior linebacker from Waco, Texas, during the game Saturday he recorded 21 total tackles with 10 of those being solo tackles. He also contributed with one sack and two tackles of a loss. He still holds the most tackles in a game this game amongst any NAIA defensive player with 23 on October 6th against Texas College . This is Jones second 20 tackle game during the games again the Steers and TWU.

NCCAA D1 Cross Country Athlete of the Week: Zackery Hammond

The SAGU Lions cross country team traveled to compete in the Mid-States Classic which was amongst some of the toughest teams in the nation and Hammond succeed against these highly ranked programs like he has done all year. Hammond finished 4th out of the 180 total runners in the 8k race and broke the school record with a time of 25:09.1. Behind this mark, the Lions finished 4th overall at the classic which is the team’s best finish in school history.

NCCAA D1 Volleyball Player of the Week: Kali Shaw

Senior hitter, Kali Shaw, and the Lady Lions traveled to Oklahoma over the weekend where they faced Oklahoma City University and Southwestern Christian University . Shaw had two double-doubles against OCU and SCU for a 1-1 record during these games. Against OCU she had 17 kills and 19 digs in a 1-3 loss then in a win against SCU she compiled 19 kills and 14 digs for a 3-1 victory. She now has over 1500 kills and 1500 digs for her career as a SAGU Lion.
