Waxahachie, Texas – November 2, 2016 – Murl Winters, former librarian for Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) , is retiring after 53 years.

Winters first attended SAGU as a student, graduating in the class of 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Missions. Winters joined SAGU’s library staff in 1963 as Assistant Librarian and was promoted in 1969 to Library Director. Winters served 27 years on staff at SAGU while also assisting with and impacting the education of countless students and staff. When asked what his favorite part of being a librarian has been, Winters responded with “Helping the students and staff.”

“For the Whole World,” a book of SAGU history, says, “Murl Winters earned the reputation of a quiet, competent man of God and an excellent teacher of Bible, Greek, and linguistics. He was largely responsible for building the library’s holdings into a collection adequate for the school’s advances in accreditation and programs.” Winter’s close working associates commend him just as highly. Dale Jensen, current director of Evangel University’s Klaude Kendrick Library, said,”I can only hope to one day have a fraction of the knowledge that Murl retains! I used to say that Murl has forgotten more than I will ever know – and that is certainly true!” John Palmer, Assistant Director of SAGU’s Library Services describes Murl Winters as a “Great man of God, equipping the saints for the good work of the Kingdom. Murl Winters is a legend in the Christian Library world.”

In 1990, Winters transferred to the Klaude Kendrick Library on the campus of Evangel University (EU) . While he is retiring from EU, he has not shelved his last book just yet. Winters is now volunteering with Global University in Springfield, Missouri. He is now assisting students from all over the world, providing resources and information to aid them in their educational pursuits.
