Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Football program started off the first week of the season with a big win. A couple days after winning their season opener, it was announced that the offense, defense and special teams Player of the Week in the Sooner Athletic Conference would all be given to the SAGU football team. Although the conference was only able to acknowledge 3 players; SAGU’s football program, coaches and players took the spotlight for their 33-15 victory over Texas Wesleyan University (TWU).

SAGU Football received the following “Player of the Week” awards from the SAC:

  • The Offensive Player of the Week was awarded to Blayne Rowe ( JR/ Mabank/TX ). He brought down 4 receptions for 55 yards and 1 touchdown.
  • Keandre Belcher ( JR/ Katy, TX ) brought home the Defensive Player of the Week award with an impressive performance on the defensive end. He recorded 9 total tackles (8 solo), 1 sack (2 tackles for loss) and 1 force fumble.
  • Kieran Woodley ( JR/ Watsonville/CA ) collected the Special Teams Player of the Week award by going 4-4 on field goal attempts with the longest being 44 yards.

On Friday, October 31 st SAGU Football will host Arizona Christian University at Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie, TX. Start time is scheduled for 12:00pm.
