Waxahachie, Texas- October 29, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football team will travel to Phoenix, Arizona over the weekend to take on Arizona Christian University (ACU).  This is the first time SAGU and ACU have met-up.

Currently, ACU is no. one in the Central States Football League (CSFL).  The Firestorm is undefeated (4-0) in the CSFL and currently 4-3 overall.  For the first time in school history, SAGU is ranked no. 25 in the NAIA poll.  SAGU is 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the CSFL (losing 23-20 to Langston).

If Arizona Christian wins, they will be the outright CSFL champions.  If SAGU tops AC, and beats Bacone College in the final game of the year, the Lions will be the CSFL champions despite a three-way tie.  They will win the honor based on the fact that SAGU is nationally ranked, ahead of both Langston and Arizona Christian.

“ACU has a really high-powered offense.  They have great skill players, a good quarterback and they are very well coached,” says head coach Frank Tristan .

ACU’s offense is led by sophomore Gerrit Groenwold .  Groenwold averages 165 yards passing per game, with a completion percentage of 0.567%. PJ Sparks is the Firestorm’s leading rusher, averaging 90 yards per game.

Linebacker Austin Schleier leads ACU in tackles, averaging six per game.

SAGU goes into the game ranked no. six in the entire NAIA in total defense per game, allowing 280 yards.  On average, SAGU is holding their opponents to 21 points per game while scoring 34 points per game on average.

On average, ACU is scoring 35 points per game.  The Firestorm’s defense is allowing 36 points per game.

Game time is at noon in Phoenix, 2pm CST, and it will be broadcast live by ACU HERE .
