Waxahachie, Texas – October 15, 2015 – The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football team continues their quest to be undefeated in the Central States Football League (CSFL) when they take on Langston University (LU) on Saturday, October 17, 2015.  LU is the defending CSFL champions.

Currently, SAGU is 5-1 overall and undefeated in the CSFL.  They have topped both Texas College and Lyon College. LU is now 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the CSFL after losing to Arizona Christian University last week, 55-52.

According to head coach Frank Tristan , LU has two top players to watch, “Offensively, senior Sheldon Augustine is a dynamic threat as a receiver and a kick returner.  Containing him has taken a lot of our focus.  They also have one of the top defensive linemen in the NAIA with Keenan Brown .  He is a great pass rusher and hard to move in the run game.”

Quarterback Mark Wright Jr . is averaging 193 yards passing per game.  His favorite target is Augustine who is averaging 5.5 catches for 61 yards per game.  Langston’s leading rusher is Norbert Ralph , who averages nearly 60 yards per game.

The SAGU defense is currently ranked no. five in overall defense in the entire National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).  Senior Jeremiah Maat is leading the Lions in tackles, with nearly eight per game.  Junior D’Vonn Brown ranks no. three in the NAIA for tackles for a loss (14).

The SAGU Lions are enjoying their best start in school history.  SAGU kicker Chadd Dearen is the current NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week as well as the CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week.

In the 2014 contest, Langston topped SAGU 38-10.  SAGU had three fumbles and threw two interceptions.  SAGU went into last year’s game 3-5.

Game time for this Saturday is at 2:00pm.  Live stats for the game can be found HERE .
