Waxahachie, Texas- October 13, 2015- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) cross country athlete Destiny Garza has been picked as the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) Runner of the Week .  This is the first time in program history that a SAGU runner has received the honor.

According to head coach Jason Covarrubias , Garza is consistently shredding seconds and minutes from week to week, “In a field that was saturated with NCAA D1 and D2 talent, Destiny didn’t flinch neither did she ever trail in the race. She was the leader from the start and showed poise because it isn’t easy running in front especially with the talent that was in the field.”

Garza is a junior from Aldine, Texas .  She finished first in a field of 158 runners to win the Watson Ford Invitational at Mississippi College.  She ran the 6K with a time of 22:16.

Garza has now finished in first place in the last two cross country meets she has participated in.

“Winning the Watson Ford Invitational was a key experience for her and one she can recall come time for conference,” says Covarrubias.

Both the men and women cross country team will be competing on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the University of Dallas Invitation in Irving, Texas.
