Team Captains announced; Ables, Watson

Seven veterans return, including Judah

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  — The cheerleading team at Southwestern Assemblies of God University is taking shape as they head into the start of their pre-season camp.

New Cheer Coach Drea Serros has announced the squad will report on Monday, August 26 for the start of two-a-day practices.

The energetic Serros brings a resume chocked full of experience in the field; running training camps, providing service during parades, years of competitive cheering and has been involved in leadership within the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders .

“This year we look to cheer at some road games as well,” stated Serros. The unit has not announced their itinerary for away games, but fans will get to see them at the Lions football home opener on Saturday, September 7.

“We will have perhaps our most experienced team ever,” the coach pointed out. The ‘Spirit of SAGU’ has six returning from last season; three of them will be juniors, three others are sophomores.

The Cheer Team will have three incoming freshmen as new members.

A valuable expression of the team, Judah , will return for a third straight year. The animated mascot adds a fun element with its sideline act. Well-received by children, Judah’s interaction with fans is always a hit.

The current roster heading into camp lists nine cheerleaders and one colorfully costumed character.
