WAXAHACHIE, TX – Recently, SAGU’s Southwestern Missions Association (SMA) chose a local community organization to partner with as part of their annual Giving Project. They were able to raise funds for FirstLook, which is a pregnancy center in Waxahachie that offers reproductive health resources for women and men.
SMA exceeded their goal, raising over $6400 to provide 100-plus bags that FirstLook uses as a critical support resource for new parents. The bags serve as a means of encouragement and help to foster empowerment and long-term support for parents.

This particular Giving Project was led by SMA Treasurer, Joclynn Bristow, who reported how much this campaign impacted the SAGU campus. She said many students expressed their desire to help, giving out of their own limited funds and even volunteering at FirstLook’s annual gala as part of a Community Outreach Ministry, which raised even more money for the cause.
SAGU involvement in the community has always had a positive impact, and the effect of projects like these is ongoing. Joclynn reflected on the SMA Giving Project and the heightened awareness it brought to the subject of unplanned pregnancies, stating “I was encouraged by the passion the student body grew for this social issue that is close to God’s heart. Our verse for last semester was James 1:27, ‘Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you’. By the end of the fall semester, I saw students begin to live this out.”
