For Immediate Release

Waxahachie, TX – Thursday, November 2, 2023 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) is proud to announce that its dormitories have been ranked #28 in the nation by Niche. SAGU’s six dormitory options are designed to enhance the student living experience, and much of campus life revolves around the camaraderie built in these dormitories.

“The vision for Residential Life,” says Dean of Students, Dr. Lance Meche, “is ‘connecting students to God and others through community,’ and residential housing is only a vehicle to facilitate that. Residence halls are just a building without the people, and the people of SAGU extend the gift of hospitality and a warm welcome to everyone they meet.” Since the founding of SAGU in 1927, dormitories have been an integral part of the University.  Collins Hall, initially built in 1911 and called “Drane Hall,” is the oldest dorm and housed the initial SAGU cafeteria. Like the other five dorms that followed,  it has witnessed countless moments of camaraderie, learning, and spiritual growth and is also officially registered as a historic building in Waxahachie.

SAGU’s dormitories, each with unique histories and namesakes, are not just buildings – they are living testimonies of our institution’s legacy and the enduring bonds built within their walls. In addition to Collins, the other five dorms – Teeter, Bridges, Guynes, Kendrick and Savell – are all named after those who had a hand in shaping the culture of SAGU, making it what it is today.  “We take pride in our student housing facilities,” says Housing Coordinator Tiffany Weaver. “Each dormitory is steeped in a rich history and provides our students with their very own sanctuaries during their educational journey. We don’t just offer dorms; we provide unique spaces that foster growth, learning, and camaraderie, truly a home away from home.” Many SAGU students also find life-long friendships with the other residents on their hall. See what SAGU students are saying with an up-close dorm tour of one of our residence halls.

As SAGU celebrates this recognition, the University remains steadfast in its commitment to providing an environment that fosters personal and spiritual growth for every student. Experience the SAGU difference today and become a part of a tradition that extends beyond academics and is rooted in faith, fellowship, and excellence.
