Waxahachie, Texas – August 9, 2016 – SAGU Business is investing in the financial literacy of students in all majors and disciplines to answer a dire need. According to an April 2015 article in U.S. News and World report, a 2014 survey by EverFi and Higher One, “college students reported feeling less prepared to manage their money than any other factor in college life — such as feeling prepared to keep up with coursework, to stay organized, and to manage time or to find help and resources.”

Business Department Chair Dr. Christi Sanders says, “Whether you plan to run a business, coach an athletic team, counsel people through difficult times, teach children, or work in ministry, the ability to successfully handle your own money could be the difference between success and failure. As Christians, we are called to be a reflection of Jesus to the world, and that includes the way we manage our money!”

While the Bible provides guidance on the topic of money management, sometimes it can be difficult to translate those lessons into daily practice. That’s where the SAGU Business Department wants to help. The event is September 20-22, in the Hagee Communication Center auditorium, and is open to all SAGU students.

Guest lecturers include Lanny Rogers , MBA in Finance from the University of Dallas, CPA candidate, and Certified Treasury Professional; Robert Overton , Experience Quality Consultant with expertise in home loan, card and deposit products and knowledge of the banking industry; and Dr. Sharon Price , former SAGU professor and expert in auditing, accounting and tax services. Each thought leader in the world of financial management is tasked with sharing their best tips, tricks, secrets and advice.

SAGU Business also hopes to record the presentations to make them available through SAGU ThoughtHub as a service to the public.

This commitment to public service, excellence and professional development underscores a push from Dr. Sanders and her team to make SAGU business programs the standard in business education. The department recently navigated specific business accreditation through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

SAGU business offers degrees in accounting, business administration, human resource management, business management, marketing and business sport management.
