June 26, 2018- Waxahachie, TX – Sam Blackmon has announced his resignation as SAGU’s baseball coach. Blackmon will move on from SAGU (Southwestern Assemblies of God University) to become the head baseball coach at Grace Community School in Tyler, TX.
The move to Grace Community School was unexpected Blackmon stated. However, the opportunity to be near family in the Tyler, TX area and continue to coach in a private school setting were too attractive to forego.
Blackmon shepherded the SAGU baseball program for six years.
Athletic Director Jesse Godding stated, “Coach Blackmon has faithfully administrated a baseball program consistent with the mission of SAGU. His leadership and efforts on behalf of the SAGU baseball program are much appreciated. He consistently modeled integrity and servant-leadership to the young men in his program. We wish Coach Blackmon the best as he moves forward.”
Blackmon oversaw a number of changes in the program including an increased roster size and depth, upgrades to the baseball field and facilities, and a shift from the Red River Athletic Conference to the Sooner Athletic Conference.
SAGU will begin the search for a successor to Coach Blackmon immediately.
