Cox, Calverley also pick up post-season honors

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  The list of awards, achievements and accolades continues for members of the Southwestern Assemblies of God University volleyball team.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) revealed the 2013 All-Region Team. SAGU had one player named to the team.

Jessica Sodich (Arlington, Tx / Ovilla Christian), who is already one of the best attackers and defensive players in school history, was named to the Mid-South All-Region Team in her junior season.

She finished in a tie for 12th in the NAIA in kills per game with a 4.0 average. Sodich accounted for 433 kills to give her 1,341 in her career.

The 5-foot-8 Outside Hitter also registered 383 digs (3.5 per game).

Sodich was also named as a Second Team All-American by the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Kassy Cox (Lufkin, Tx / Lufkin HS) was named to the NCCAA’s Honorable Mention All-Region Team. The 6-foot-1 senior played Middle Hitter.

Her .263 Hitting Percentage ranked her No. 5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. She was also No. 5 in kills per game with a 3.2 average. She was tied for second in blocks per set (1.0).

Three players from SAGU were selected to the First Team of the NCCAA’s Central Region.

Sodich, Cox and Taylor Calverley (Mansfield, Tx / Grace Prep) comprised the same trio that already was honored as First Team All-Conference in the S.A.C.

Calverley, a senior setter, capped her career as the Lady Lions’ all-time leader in assists with 4,822. She averaged 10.07 assists per game this year.
