CEDAR HILL, Texas  --  Southwestern Assemblies of God University forced Northwood University into a bevy of shots on Saturday. Two of them found the back of the net and the host Knights held SAGU scoreless in a 2-0 setback for the Lady Lions.

The loss dropped SAGU into last, tied with St. Gregory’s University in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions are 2-11 overall and 0-5 in the SAC.

Northwood is battling for a berth in the conference tournament. They are 4-5-1 and 2-3-1 in league action.

SAGU’s plight on offense since joining the SAC continues. The team has been shutout in all five conference games and been held without a goal in eight of thirteen outings.

A season after booting a best-ever 28, the Purple Pride have produced five.

The defending SAC Defensive Player of the Week, junior goalie Haley Shingleton (Deer Park, Tx / Deer Park HS), faced 35 shots. Most missed the goal altogether, requiring the netminder to make 11 saves.

The Knights scored a goal in each half, firing 14 and 21 shots respectively. They were awarded all 11 of the match’s corner kicks.

Northwood dominated the play physically though only two fouls were called against them in each half.

SAGU managed two shots, both by junior forward Amber Belisle (Roseville, Cal / Whitney HS). They came in the first half.

Team Purple is averaging 6.8 shots per game.

The squad has five games remaining, four of them at home.

Thursday they play host to John Brown University. The 2:00pm game will be aired in HD on SAGU Sports Live. The pre-game show begins at 1:50pm.
