Junior praised for her vertical rise

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  The Sooner Athletic Conference announced last week’s top performers and among them is Jessica Sodich, from Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

Sodich (Arlington, Tx / Ovilla Christian) was chosen as the Hitter of the Week in the 11-team SAC.

She helped the Lady Lions during a week in which they won three of four matches by averaging 4.25 kills per game. She also gathered 4.17 digs per game, showing her defensive skills.

Sodich (SOH-ditch) was credited with four blocks and a pair of aces as well.

According to Head Coach Hank Moore, she not only passed the 1,000 mark in career kills, but has moved into SAGU’s Top 5. The all-time leader is Kelani Daniels (El Paso, Tx), with Brittani Toole (Whitehouse, Tx), Caitlyn Hudson (Mansfield, Tx) and current senior Kassy Cox (Lufkin, Tx / Lufkin HS) at #2, #3 and #4.

Sodich is a junior, so her ascension is far from finished.

“Jessica brings a never-say-die attitude to the court,” Coach Moore pointed out. “She is a relentless competitor.”

“Right now she leads the SAC in kills per set at 4.2,” he added. The 2012 champion of the Red River Athletic Conference in kills per game (4.21) is at it again.

Sodich currently ranks #9 in the nation (NAIA).

“We are very proud of her! At 5-foot-8, she is one of the smallest hitters in our conference. But, what she lacks in height she makes up with her heart and vertical.”

Vertical is where she is headed.
