Ambrosie PK highlights tough loss to Wesleyan

SAGU hosts OKCU at 2:00pm in Monday finale

Current Standings in SAC:

FORT WORTH, Texas  --  Robert Ambrosie (Lasi, Romania / Richard Wurmbrand HS) scored with seven seconds remaining to avoid a shutout for Southwestern Assemblies of God University in a 4-1 setback to Texas Wesleyan University.

He drew a penalty inside the 18-yard box, resulting in a direct free kick from 12-yards out.

Ambrosie, a sophomore forward, booted just the team’s third shot of the day. He made it count.

It was his fifth tally of the season and his eight career goal.

He has been at the penalty spot twice this year, scoring both times. He had one as a freshman.

The PK kept the host Rams from posting a third consecutive shutout. They were fresh off of 1-0 blankings against John Brown University and Oklahoma City University.

The loss dropped the SAGU record to 3-14 overall. Last fall the team was 7-11.

Their mark against teams from the Sooner Athletic Conference is now 0-9 with one more match yet to play.

Wesleyan improves to 12-5-1 and 6-4 in the league. Since 2005 they are 8-0-1 against the Lions.

TWU were credited with 24 shots, eleven on goal and had an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Their defense didn’t allow a shot in the second half until Ambrosie was awarded one on a foul.

The Lions first half shots were from Jonathan Ramos (Tegus, Honduras / Garringer HS) and Walther Cavazos (Monterrey, N.L., Mexico / Mesquite HS).

Sophomore goalie Cesar Espana (Katy, Tx / Cinco Ranch HS) was in the goal for the Purple Pride.

SAGU has been forced to use first string keeper, senior Cesar Galvan (Allen, Tx / Lovejoy HS), as a defender. The squad is down to just two reserves.

SAGU wraps up the 2013 regular season on Monday when they play host to Oklahoma City University (7-7-2 / 3-4-2 in SAC) at 2:00pm.

Sandro Salazar (Kissimmee, Fla / Gateway HS) leads the team in goals with six, while Lee Kounas (Oak Cliff, Tx / Townview HS) and Ambrosie have five apiece.

In points, which includes assists, Kounas has 15, Salazar 13, Ambrosie 12 and Ramos with 11.
