Team plays in Ft. Worth on Saturday night

Season ends at home on Monday; Galvan caps career

galvan-cesar-in-goalWAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Seeking to end the season on a positive note, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University men’s soccer team heads into their final weekend in search of a victory.

Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s men’s team, while trying to apply the brakes to a long losing streak, has plenty to play for at as their season winds down.

The Lions (3-13) will look to earn a tough road victory when they take on Texas Wesleyan University (11-5-1) at Martin Field (directions below) at 7:00pm on Saturday. The Rams are 9-1 at home, so it’ll be a tall order for SAGU.

Forecast for the game, played under the lights, is a low of 41.

Fans can follow the game on LiveStats at:

Directions: From Interstate Highway 30: Exit Beach Street, approximately two miles east of downtown Fort Worth. Travel south on Beach Street, then take a left on Lancaster Avenue (State Hwy. 180). Martin Field will be on your right side less than a mile from Beach Street.

The Lions have lost their share of close games this season, including four in overtime. They have booted 26 goals to date, but defensive struggles (50 goals) have been their downfall.

The Rams have netted 38 goals and surrendered 25. They have won their last two outings with 1-0 shutouts and have blanked the opposition seven times this season.

The contest will cap the regular season for the Rams, who own a 7-0-1 lead in the series. SAGU is 0-4 in Cowtown. The 2007 Lions tied the Rams, 2-2, at home.

TWU has won the past three meetings with scores of 1-0 in 2012, 3-0 in 2011 and 1-0 in 2010.

On Monday the Lions play Oklahoma City University (7-6-2) at home at 2:00pm. The eighth place Stars, who have scored 29 and conceded 21, are 4-2 on the road.

It will be the final home appearance for senior goalie Cesar Galvan (Allen, Tx / Lovejoy HS).
