Men's hoopsters ranked No. 3 in NCCAA pre-season

coach-bostwick-with-gods-planWAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Ranked number 5 in the NAIA's Pre-Season Top 25 Coaches Poll, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University men's basketball team takes to the floor tonight in a 7:30pm (CST) game with Dallas' Paul Quinn College.

The Lions defeated Paul Quinn twice a year ago, though both were very hard-fought victories. SAGU won at home 105-83 and needed a big second half surge to win at Quinn, 67-55.

The probable starting line-up for the Lions will have a pair of six-footers at guard; sophomore Drew Erskine (Houston, Tx / Victoria West HS, Centenary College) and senior Caleb Gentry (Hondo, Tx / Hondo HS, Ok Wesleyan Univ).

Erskine is averaging 12.0 points per game, while Gentry is at 24.7.

At wing is 6'5 Daniel Mills (Belton, Tx / Belton HS ). The freshman sports a 16.6 ppg average.

Caleb Feemster (Addison, Tx / Trinity Chr-Addison, Ranger College ) is a 6'6 junior forward who is duplicating Mills production at 16.6 ppg. He is also claiming 12.0 rebounds per outing.

In the post is 6'8 Remington Mitchell (Mansfield, Tx / Mansfield HS ). "Big Rem," also a frosh, is netting 4.3 ppg as well grabbing 7.0 boards.

The flyswatter has racked up eight rejections through three games.

Clayton O'Neill (Halletsville, Tx / Halletsville HS ) and 6'6 Chase Davis (Garland, Tx / Garland Christian) are the quickest players to enter the fray.

Lions have taken last four, lead series, 9-7

Paul Quinn College (0-3), who went 13-16 a year ago, are led by 6'1 junior guard Colan Weasby (15.7 ppg).

Sophomore Tevin Williams, a 6'3 small forward, is shooting 59% from the field and scoring at an 11.0 ppg clip.

SAGU has swept the series in each of the past two seasons and own a 9-7 lead in the series with the Tigers. The Lions are 4-4 at home against Paul Quinn.

Indiana Wesleyan University and Oklahoma Christian University appear at No. 1 and No. 2.

IWU is ranked No. 2 in the NAIA's D2. The Wildcats are currently 5-1. They were 26-7 last season.

OCU, members of the NCAA's D2, are 2-0. The Eagles finished 19-12 a year ago.

Two years ago the Lions finished No. 3 in the NCCAA's national tournament in Indiana.
