Featured Home Games: Basketball on Tuesday, Saturday

SAGU Hoops, Baseball, Softball teams in action

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Sports fans at Southwestern Assemblies of God University will find plenty of games on the menu this week, but none bigger than home basketball games on Tuesday and early Saturday afternoon. Here is an overview:

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL   -  Two Home Games

The Lady Lions (12-14 record) host Northwood University (9-17) on Tuesday evening at 6:00pm (CST). It will be the first of the team's final three home games. 

On Saturday at 1:00pm they will entertain Wayland Baptist University (15-10).

Provided the team can win them both, they will have a chance to finish the season with a winning record or at least a .500 mark.

Saturday is SENIOR DAY. Team Lioness will honor five seniors: Nia Winston, Andrea Lugo, Sierra Hankins, Shaquita Roberts and Kassy Cox


MEN'S MENS BASKETBALL   -   Two Home Games

SAGU (22-3), currently ranked No. 5 in the NAIA, can clinch the league championship in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a win on Tuesday night when Northwood University comes to town on Tuesday for an 8:00pm contest.

They will win the SAC with either a win or a loss by St. Gregory's University.

Then, on Saturday afternoon, they welcome Wayland Baptist University (18-8) for an early game at 3:00pm.

The team will honor four seniors prior to the game: Mo Oglesby, Caleb Gentry, Dominique Rambo and Ben Starks.


MEDIA COVERAGE: Fans can watch the basketball games and senior ceremonies on-line at SAGU TVLiveStats will also be provided. Access will be listed in Game Day Previews, which will be posted the morning of the games.


BASEBALL  -  Four road games

The Lions (7-5 record) will play their first road games when they take on Huston-Tillotson University next weekend in Austin during a four-game series.

A doubleheader is on tap for both Friday at 2:00pm and Saturday at 1:00pm.


SOFTBALL  -  Six road games

The Lady Lions (3-5 record) play a local twinbill in Irving on Tuesday night when they take on the University of Dallas. The two games will be played under the lights, beginning at 6:00pm.

Next weekend, Feb. 21-22, they are slated for doubleheaders in Moore, Oklahoma against Hillsdale College; Friday at 1:00pm, Saturday beginning at 11:00am.
