HT stuns Lady Lions, end 25-game skid

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  The Southwestern Assemblies of God University softball and baseball seasons are coming to an end, with one making their final appearance today on campus.

The Baseball Lions (14-32, 4-20 in RRAC) play host to Huston-Tillotson University (10-42, 4-19 in RRAC) today in a doubleheader on campus. The first game begins at 1:00pm.

The second will commence approximately 30 minutes after the end of the first.

The two teams are battling for an eighth place finish in the regular season.

Weather for today in Waxahachie should be partly sunny with a high of 69 degrees. South-southeasterly winds of 15mph are expected.

The Softball Lady Lions suffered a tough defeat, 9-8, to last place Huston-Tillotson on Friday night in Austin. SAGU must win twice today along with a win over second place Northwood University on Tuesday to qualify for a berth in the NCCAA Central Regional.

Senior catcher Heather Wyatt (Lake Jackson, Tx / Brazoswood HS) went 3-for-4 that included an inside-the-park home run to tie the score at 8-8. The host Rams then won the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The nine runs was a season high for Tillotson.

The win snapped HT's 25-game losing streak and improved their record to 2-31. They are 2-17 in the Red River Athletic Conference.

SAGU is now 12-22 and 5-16 in league action. The Purple Pride has dropped 14 of their last 15 games.

The teams will meet again today in a twinbill that starts at noon at the Krieg Fields in Austin.

A complete report on both baseball and sofball will be posted tonight.
