SAGU introduces new lion emblemWaxahachie, Texas - February 22, 2013 - Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) unveiled a new athletic logo during the men's basketball win over Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) on Thursday evening.

SAGU will join the Sooner Athletic Conference beginning in the 2013-2014 season. The university is also adding cross-country this fall.

The new athletic logo was a joint effort between SAGU's marketing and athletics departments. Marketing Director Ryan McElhany explained, "Our objective was to develop a new athletic emblem that would represent the determination of SAGU Lions as we move into a new era of achievement."

The lengthy development process included focus groups with students, staff and faculty. According to McElhany, the theme that fans most desired in the new emblem was "determination." Participants also voiced a desire for an emblem that was "simple" and "clean."

The Marketing department acknowledges that it may take some fans time to embrace the new look. McElhany added, "The majority of reactions to the new emblem have been positive. But, we understand that with any change, it takes a while for some to warm up to a new look. The success of a new logo is much more about the feelings, emotions and achievements associated with it over time. Tonight's exciting win against OLLU and the energy at the game are a great start."
