MARSHALL, Texas  --  The no. 16 ranked Southwestern Assemblies of God University (17-3, 11-2 in RRAC) men's basketball team maintained their perfect road record with a come-from-behind 74-72 triumph over Wiley College (11-9, 6-7 in RRAC).

It was the Lions eight straight triumph and the Wildcats third loss in as many games.

The SAGU Lady Lions (6-14, 3-10 in RRAC) were on the short end of a 61-50 verdict at the hands of the no. 17 ranked Wiley Lady Wildcats (18-2, 12-1 RRAC).

Wiley created 22 first half turnovers to build a 38-23 lead and held off an improved SAGU performance in the second half to post the win.

The Lions actually led throughout the game until a late 16-4 surge by the Wildcats put the hosts on top, 70-68, with 2:34 remaining.

SAGU reclaimed the lead when junior guard Caleb Gentry (Hondo, Tx / Oklahoma Wesleyan University, Hondo HS) converted an old-fashioned three-point play at the 2:11 mark. The basket came in transition when he drove the length of the floor and scored in traffic.

A moment later the Lions went up 73-70 when Dominique Rambo (Dallas, Tx / Oklahoma Wesleyan Univ., Trinity Christian School) swiped the ball from Erik Hunter near halfcourt, then broke free and zoomed in for a layup with 1:35 to play.

Both teams left the door wide open for each other by failing to make free throws. Wiley sank 2-of-4 in the closing 1:22 while SAGU missed 4-of-5.

The play of the game on defense came in the waning seconds when freshman stopper Emmanuel Adoyi (Little Rock, Ark / Parkview HS) blocked the shot of Anthony Jackson, who had driven the lane on the right side. Adoyi (pronounced like a-BOY) rotated from the left side to get a piece of the ball with three seconds to go.

The Wildcats did get a chance another at the buzzer. Hunter's three-quarter court length heave, which would have counted, missed badly, failing to draw iron.

A complete report on the game will be posted later tonight.

Women's Basketball

The Lady Wildcats jumped to a 12-4 lead and never lost it. SAGU did draw to within 15-10 on a pair of three-point bombs from Jessica Sodich (Arlington, Tx / Ovilla Christian) and Andrea Lugo (San Antonio, Tx / Somerset HS).

Sodich hit another triple and Cordia Harvatin (San Antonio, Tx / Stacey HS) fired in three triples in leading SAGU to a very respectable showing. For Harvatin, a sophomore, it was one of her best efforts to date.

The Lady Lions battled Wiley nearly evenly on the boards, finishing with 37. It led to 26 free throws on the road. The hosts had 40 rebounds and 23 foul shots.

A full report and box score will be posted later.
