AFCWA tabs Godding as special photographer and historian

godding-teaffWACO, Texas  --  Gina Godding, Palmer Elementary Second grade teacher, has accepted a position on the American Football Coaches Wives Association (AFCWA) Board of Directors.

Godding, wife of Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Jesse Godding, has been a member of AFCWA since 2009. Since joining Mrs. Godding has attended the yearly conventions, volunteering in several different capacities.

Godding has taken on the enjoyable task of providing the organization with photography coverage during the three day AFCA event. On January 12th Godding began her service as the official AFCWA photographer and historian while attending the 2014 AFCWA National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

AFCWA’s motto reads: Camaraderie, Support, Information, and Service is what we’re all about.

Godding admits that “Being the wife of a coach (regardless of what sport) presents many challenges.” But she believes the AFCWA can provide a community devoted to offering encouragement and support for football coaches wives who are who are devoted to their husband and his profession with all its ups and downs.

She is clearly qualified to carry the label of a coach’s wife.  Her husband just completed his twenty-fifth season as a head football coach on the collegiate level.

AFCWA strives to present seminars during the convention to educate coach’s wives about varying aspects of life as a coach’s spouse.

Godding states that the fellowship of the AFCWA “provides fellowship during social gatherings that withstand all game day rivalries.”

Members in the AFCWA raise funds for local Children’s Hospitals each year in the convention host city.

Visiting hospitals provide additional opportunities for AFCWA members to promote their football programs by donating team memorabilia, and gathering items for unexpected overnight stay care-packages.

Godding feels the visits are “a very rewarding experience, to be a part of putting a smile on a child’s face during a time that isn’t very happy.”

Additional AFCWA fundraising goes to scholarships for wives who want to further their education.

This past January the American Football Coaches Wives Association which was originally chartered in 1989 with six Grand Ladies, celebrated the organization’s 25th year of serving wives of football coaches from high school, college, and the NFL.

AFCWA is under the leadership of Executive Director Donell Teaff, wife of former Baylor coaching legend Grant Teaff.  Its organization’s office operates from within the headquarters of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) facility in Waco, Texas.

It is located at 100 Legends Lane, just off University Parks Drive between the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and Fort Fisher Park.
