No. 16 ranked Stars break tie in 8th

SAGU takes on Northwood on Saturday at 1 p.m.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma  --  Southwestern Assemblies of God University scored the game's first run in the top of the seventh inning before No. 16 ranked Oklahoma City University added single runs in their last two at bats to nip the Lions, 2-1, Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.

The setback in the opener ot the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament witnessed SAGU battle the Stars (33-16 record) tooth and nail on OCU's home field.

SAGU moves to their second of three games in pool play with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday against another nationally ranked team. Northwood University (33-18) blanked Texas Wesleyan University (26-25), 4-0, on Friday.

The Lions third game will take place on Sunday afternoon against Wesleyan. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.

SAGU must win the next two games to have a chance to advance to Monday's conference championship game. 

The team has now faced 10 consecutive games versus teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll.
