Softball Lady Lions open the season Saturday in Tyler

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Southwestern Assemblies of God University (5-1) will play a doubleheader on campus Saturday at noon. NCAA Division II Southern Nazarene University (1-1) visits for a pair of seven inning games.

Both teams split a twinbill the last time they took the field; the Lions on Thursday against Central Christian College (Ks), the Crimson Storm when they met Mid-American Christian University.

SAGU will likely send Tucker Burt and Pedro "Tres" Ortiz to the hill against SNU.

Burt is a 6'5 right-hander from North Richland Hills, Texas. Ortiz is a lefty from Lorena, Tx. Both won their opener a week ago when SAGU swept Hillsdale College.

Forecasts call for a high of 57 with a partly cloudy sky. The first pitch at high noon should be thrown against a nine mph breeze out of the South. The temperature at game time is expected to be 51 degrees.

The Storm went 20-25 last year, their first as a member of the Great American Conference and the NCAA D2. Prior, they were in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

SNU is located in Bethany, Oklahoma, a western suburb of OKC.

SAGU will not play again until next weekend, February 14-15, when Wiley College (Tx) comes for a visit. They are slated for two doubleheaders - both starting at noon on campus.

Wiley is in the NAIA and the Red River Athletic Conference.

The Lions took all three games in the series a year ago.
